Main Projects Undertaken and Completed

Below are some projects we have undertaken and completed:

Project 1: Afram Plains District – Micro finance Rural poultry improvement

Funding Agency: German Development Service and Presbyterian Church of USA
Date and Duration: From 2004 to 2005
Project Description: the project had the following activities:

  1. Development of smallholder poultry in cockerels and layer birds.
  2. To provide 30 women with training in village poultry management
  3. To provide simple housing units for village poultry.
  4. To provide poultry drugs to farmers
  5. To provide 30 women with ten layers or twenty cockerels per beneficiary

 

Project 2: Potential of the Village Poultry Production System

Funding Agency: Danish Network for Smallholder Poultry Development
Date and Duration: February 2002
Project Description: the project consisted in the organization of a national workshop on village poultry production for non-governmental organizations and government institutions. Main activities:

  1. To provide 30 women with training in village poultry management
  2. Produced newspaper advertisements about the workshop
  3. Workshop was organized into groups
  4. A workshop report was written

 

Project 3: Construction of Obodan brooder house

Funding Agency: Student Chapter of Engineers Without Borders of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Indiana, USA
Date and Duration: May 2006
Project Description: the project constructed a 1,000 capacity poultry house. The Obodan Brooder house meant to be used to brood birds and sell them to farmers.

Project 4: Construction of a Kumasi Improved Ventilated Pit in Obodan

Funding Agency: Student Chapter of Engineers Without Borders of Columbia University, USA
Date and Duration: May 2005
Project Description: educating people in sanitation and prevention, treatment and care, water-borne diseases, components included, environmental cleanliness.

 

Project 5: Village poultry improvement programme

Date and Duration: 2004
Project Description: Sensitization of the people of Yua Communities in simple housing construction, I-2 vaccination for village poultry and feed management.

 

Project 6: Integrated Community Support livelihood Project

Funding Agency: Kindness International, USA
Date and Duration: 2004
Project Description: Sensitization of the people of Yua Communities in simple housing construction, I-2 vaccination for village poultry and feed management.

 

Project 7: Behavioral Change Communication Activities on Tuberculosis in Bongo District

Funding Agency: Ghana Health Services in Accra
Date and Duration: December 1st, 2007 to March 31st, 2008
Project Description: Sensitize chiefs, women and opinion leaders, train community-based volunteers to undertake TB/HIV house to house campaign.

 

Project 8: Yua Development Project

Funding Agency: Engineers Without Borders-Northern Arizona University, USA
Date and Duration: May 2007 to present
Project Description: Provision of water, sanitation and school programmes.

Project 9: EC-UN Joint Migration and Development Initiative (JM&DI) Sankofa Family Poultry

Funding Agency: EU
Date and Duration: From 2009 to 2010
Project Description: Layer birds and micro finance to 300 beneficiaries in Tamale Metro and Dangme West.

Project 10: Bentley University Student Internship program

Funding Agency: EU
Date and Duration: From 2009 to 2015
Project Description: The Ghana Poultry Network hosts from 2-4 students each from Bentley University in the USA to work on different poultry projects with the Asutsuare Women Development Society and the Micro-Finance and Small Loans Centre.

Project 11: Micro-finance and Education Programme

Funding Agency: Serving Christ Ministries, Inc, USA
Date and Duration: 2013 to present
Project Description: Serving Christ Ministries and GAPNET are supporting the Asutsuare Women Development Society in smallholder poultry production. Serving Christ Ministries is supporting Yua women in micro-finance projects for increased livelihoods.

Project 12: Poultry Improvement Project

Funding Agency: Children’s Hope International, Inc, USA
Date and Duration: 2006 to 2015
Project Description: Funding for small holder poultry with Asutsuare Women Development Society Project Description: Funded trips of Executive Officer of GAPNET to participate in the Poultry Exhibition in Atlanta, in 2006 and in 2015.

 

Project 13: Student Internship Placement

Funding Agency: Expanding Horizon Cornell University, College of Veterinary Medicine
Date and Duration: 1998 to present
Project Description: Students are placed to work with the veterinary laboratory, field vaccination activities for pets or small ruminants, live bird markets.

 

Project 14: Student Internship Project

Funding Agency: Institute for African Development, Cornell University
Date and Duration: 2014 to present
Project Description: One Student was placed to work with Ministry of agriculture, one student work in ah hospital and one student taught in school and micro-finance.

 

Project 15: Student Placement

Funding Agency: Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences
Date and Duration: November, 2017 - January, 2018
Project Description: Three students were placed with hospitals and schools to conduct research into nutrition for children.

 

Project 16: Clean water

Funding Agency: Drilling for Hope, USA
Date and Duration: July 2017 to present
Project Description: Drilling of four boreholes for schools in Yua Junior Secondary School, Amuntanga School (December 2017), Anerigo Primary and Saabisi Junior Secondary School(March, 2018).
